The Chronicles of a Potential Whovian: The Beginning

I tend to move in certain, fandom-leaning circles. I'm a member of the original Harry Potter readers, the Pokemon generation, the newly forged Marvel fans, one of the clinically insane Sherlocked. I'm a fully fledged Star Wars watching, GOT theorizing, AVPM singing, nerd. The only thing I'm not, is a Whovian (also, I haven't jumped on the Korean Drama wagon, but one thing at a time). And it's weird, because all of my closest friends, and fellow fandom warriors are. I'm quite certain that I've all the potential in the world, of becoming the most faithful of Whovians, I've just never taken the time. Because if we're honest here, taking up Doctor Who, from start to finish, is no easy task. So, I've decided to blog my way through Doctor Who (both, to keep myself from bingeing, and therefore letting it take over my life, and to make it a little more interesting). I've been advised by many respectable Whovians to start my journey with the Eccleston series. So here we go: post one of "The Chronicles of a Potential Whovian."

Oh! And spoilers people!

Episode One: Rose

  1. So far so good. I'm loving this intro music. I'm not going to be exactly humming it around my apartment like the Sherlock theme (when is it COMING BACK?!!! I'm fine), but it's pretty neat.
  2. Oh hey there Billie Piper! She's Rose right? Doesn't something tragic happen to her? Spoiler alert?
  3. Aah! London pre-Brexit! A simpler, happier time.
  4. Maybe I'm wrong but a pink hoodie seems a little casual for working in this kind of retail job. Never mind, pink hoodies seem to be the uniform of everyone in this establishment.
  5. Forgive me, but hearing Billie Piper calling for "Wilson" can only bring to mind this:

     6.   Don't walk towards the creepy sounds!!! Woman survival 101!

     7.   Holy crap! The mannequins are moving!!
     8.   Rose is way too calm about this! Is this an every day occurrence for her? Do inanimate objects
just come to life in front of her on a regular basis? Run you fool! Run!!!
     9.   Aww yeah, it's the Doctor!!
    10. "You pulled his arm off," what a strange line.
    11.  Haha! Oh students! You so silly! Always pulling pranks, like creating killer mannequins.
I remember when I was a student and a bunch of us...Sorry, tangent, where was I? Oh yeah!
    12. Oh no Wilson is dead! Wilson! WILSON!!!
    13. "Run for your life." Foreshadowing?
    14.  TARDIS!!

    15.  Rose's boyfriend getting rid of the mannequin arm can only lead to good things, I'm sure.
Given the fact that the boyfriend is the only person of colour in this show, and Rose is
obviously supposed to be with the Doctor,  I'd say the boyfriend's doomed!!
    16.  A little double entendre there Rose!
    17.  Can we just have a show where the Doctor reads tabloids? Pleeese!

    18. Ok, I know he's the Doctor, and telling the truth and everything, but any normal person would
listen to his spiel, and immediately run the other way. Rose is basically Bella Swan, if she
were an interesting, well written character.
    19. What kind of search engine is that? Rose! Use google!
    20.  Article by conspiracy theorist: title drop!
    21.  Now we're going to meet the conspiracy theorist! Good thing he's a local.
    22.  Boyfriend (who's name is Mickey apparently) doesn't think this is a safe idea. I'm glad there's
someone sensible around here, even if he is doomed.
    23.  Conspiracy theorist says the Doctor brings death. Foreshadowing?
    24.  Mickey just got eaten by a demon bin! Called it!
    25. Aaah! The aliens have turned him into a creepy plastic, humanoid of nightmares!

     26.   He likes pizza though, so he can't be all bad. Oooh...pizza...
     27.   The Doctor turns up just when he's needed! I feel like this is going to happen a lot in this
              show.
     28.  A wooden box?! Girlie, that is a Tardis! Even I know how disrespectful that is!
     29.  The Tardis is so cool inside!! It's like the Weasley's tent at the Quidditch World Cup!
     30.  "It's from the 1950s! It's a disguise!"
     31.  Hey. Hey Doctor. Hey. Look behind you!

\

    32.   Ok. This Doctor is adorkable!
    33.   WHAAT? Mickey's alive!! This show is more progressive than I thought!
    34.   No Rose's mum! Don't go shopping, go home!! Mannequins are coming to kill you!
    35.   If these aliens can inhabit anything, why not go for something destructive, like a nuclear
bomb...or a tank....or a shark? Not too bright these aliens.
    36.   Oh no! Conspiracy guy!!
    37.   Yay! Rose slay.
    38.   Aww Rose! You made him so disappointed when you said you couldn't go with him, even
though you're totally going to change your mind in a second.
    39.   Hurray!!!

Music Monday: Hopeless Wanderer

Hello blog world!!! It's been a while! I've been wanting to post about this music video for about a month now, however, literally every week since I've seen it something has prevented me from posting. From wireless break downs, to moving into the dorms (yes I'm back at Northland), to late night meetings, it's been a whirl wind!

Anyway, this video was just something I had to post about. If you haven't seen it get ready, because the first time I saw it, I laughed so hard I cried. Hopeless Wanderer is probably my favourite track from Mumford & Sons new album Babel, but now I can't hear the song without picturing the antics of Jason Sudeikis, Hason Bateman, Ed Helms and Will Forte! Thanks Mumford & Sons for not taking yourselves that seriously!!

As a side note, this video reminds me of another serious song put to a hilarious music video. Now when I listen to this song I can't help but do the actions! Because I'm feeling benevolent I've decided to post this one too! Hope you survived your Monday!

A Little Bit of Ridiculous # 1

Thought I'd start my first ridiculous post with something personal of mine; my alarm clock! I got this at my favourite store back home; Penneys Prima (super cheap with many much beautiful things!) during my visit this past Christmas. I thought it looked kind of cute, and retro and it matched my dorm's colour scheme, but had no idea how it would work as an alarm.

The clock has two settings; you can choose between a musical alarm, and a bell. The first time I used it I chose the musical setting and settled in for the night. Well the music has a variety of old, but recognizable 80s and 90s tunes, and sounds a bit like those musical children's toys, and the tune changes every couple of seconds. I found myself waking up trying to guess the tune before hitting snooze a couple of times. When I eventually chose to turn the clock off and get up, the clock said good morning to me!! I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard (maybe you have to be there) and I still have a good giggle about it every morning! It's ridiculous, but I love it!

Hope you guys had a wonderful Wednesday! We all got snowed in on campus, so no Awana for my church team. Fortunately we also have Heart Conference on this week so there are plenty of new people to meet, and amazing sessions to attend. I may post about it further this weekend.

Ten steps to being a fake photographer

As a "professional" fake photographer, I feel it is my duty to share my expert wisdom with my followers. I have narrowed this down to 10 simple steps that every aspiring fake photographer must follow to be successful.

Image from Chicago Vintage Underground

Fake photographer- definition: A talentless person, armed with a camera, who can pull off the appearance of ability.

  1. It has been said that a good artist never blames his tools (or something to that effect) but there are no good artists here, so it is perfectly acceptable for a fake photographer to blame his/ her bad pictures on the quality of their camera. This is also helpful for those on a tight budget, as there is no need to purchase an expensive instrument; a cheap camera will work very well.
  2. To pull off the illusion of talent, it is essential to have an artsy mindset. Tilting your camera angle works very well in creating an artsy feel to your pictures. It sends the message that you see the world from a different perspective than your less gifted associates. You're willing to turn things around, and look at your world from all angles and possibilities!
  3. A rule that all fake photographers know well is the black and white rule. Converting a picture to black and white will automatically improve a bad picture, and give it a look of professionalism. Everything looks good in black and white!
  4. People make assumptions about you, just by the company you keep. Hanging around with other photographers (or following photography blogs if you are a blogger) and or artistic minded people, will cause people to assume that you are just as talented as your friends. However, proceed with caution. Friends that are too talented may have the opposite effect.
  5. If posting pictures on the internet, posting an inspiring quote alongside it, leads people to believe that there is a deeper meaning to your picture than meets the eye. It is likely that no one will ever figure out this trick, because no one will admit that they don't see the beauty in your pictures. They are too afraid that others will view them as uncouth, and unsophisticated (they won't realize that no one else gets it either!)
  6. Using knowing language such as " the light in this room is very bad", "lens" and "angle" will make you sound legit.
  7. Photoshop is essential to a fake photographer. I have found the photoshop programe on the Mac to be all I need, but, because not everyone has a Mac, an online programe will work just as well.
  8. Take your camera everywhere you go; people will associate you with the camera.
  9. If you have no qualms about taking advantage of people, selling your pictures for an outrageous price, will not only make you money, but will also benefit you in your endeavor to appear gifted. The same principle is used with artists selling their paintings. The more expensive it is, people will assume that it is worth buying!
  10.  Finally because I am a fake photographer, I consider the camera one uses, of equal importance as actual talent; if not more. Therefore, upgrading, if you can, could make all the difference to your pictures having a professional appearance. This step is optional, however, as it will make step one redundant.
Note: Results may vary.
